View Full Version : Business Bank Account?
Any recommendations on any business bank accounts?
As we are only just starting up we don't have many transactions but I thought having a business account would look more professional!
Thanks

I use Abbey - they are free for postal accounts.

sorry if i'm sounding stupid now - but with postal accounts can you still deal with things in the branch?

You can't deal at the branch - it is all done by post and by telephone if you need them.
Have been pretty good so far though - although getting postal envelopes has been interesting - don't seem to like sending them out!

Personally I don't recommend NatWest only because my local village branch is a bit rubbish. They are free for the first year so I'm going to be switching banks once they start charging.

I recommend Alliance and Leicester Commercial Bank - top for me!

We have our account with the Abbey.
It's fab - post cheques off, access things via Internet and Telephone.
Haven't had a single problem with them.
We did have an account with the RBS too but they were absolutely abysmal in their service (may have just been our branch though). Plus the fees were pretty hefty for a small business so we closed that account and just use the Abbey.

Same for me. They offer FREE business banking for the first 18 months. I live in quite a remote village and it's fab because I can pay in, withdraw and get balances at the Village Post Office. HTH x

My business account is with Barclays. However, I didn't shop around, nothing bad about the account except they charge for deposits by cheque. Online banking and telephone banking available and my branch is just up the road. Since Barclays is the only bank I've dealt with in England I have nothing to compare with. Been fine really.
Arianna, you said you can post your cheques to your bank and then they deposit them in your account? Was this service obviously available to you or did you have to ask? Thanks.

Hi Meghan,
It's a feature of the account. You don't pay fees with Abbey - up to a certain limit - and you can't deal with a branch you have to do everything via post or a cash machine. It's actually fab as I just fill out the paying in book and stick it in the envelope. I send it with DH on his way to work and he pops it into the post box. :happy72:

Co-op offer free banking to FSB members and you can use the Post Office too, and they have a reasonably good ethical policy. If you're into ethical stuff Tridias are the only other bank I know about who are picky about who they invest with.

That sounds fab. I will ask my bank if they can offer this type of service. However, I'm not exactly optimistic that they will. Thanks!
I use Abbey too and have done for 3 years with no problems.

HSBC now have a small business account where if you mainly internet bank (not too many cheques), and don't bank too much cash then it's free of charges.
