My first impressions of Dan Brown fron Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons was mixed, he writes a good tale but I always got the feeling he was trying to show off how clever he was while he simultaneouly talked down to me. All the symbology bits seemed far to contrived. On the other hand he wrote page turning stufff.
Deception Point was therefore a very pleasant suprise, as although the plot has more twist than a plate of pasta, he has in this book dropped the "clever bits" and concentrated on writing a great book. There are Dan Brown moments where he springs the unexpected on you and you are left wondering "well where the f did that come from" but in this book, it works, and works well.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recomend it to others. :happy72:
I'm now halfway through Waylander II by David Gemmell, his recent death makes it a tribute re-read in a way.

I liked deception point too but do you feel like he has a formula for writing his books which becomes a little boring? his main character is very strong 7 attractive & can outdo any adversary & stay awake for unlimited amounts of time while doing unfeasable acts & still be able to be on the ball enough to stay alive.
Have you read Angels & Demons?

Ohhh have you ever come across Clive Cussler and his awfully egomaniac invincible hero Dirk Pitt yet?... I read one and well, Clive Cussler, never again!
Hetty's Hubby, thanks for the tip, I've been staring at that book for ages wondering whether or not I should buy. Maybe I'll get myself one soon, right after I finish that terribly long and winding State of Fear by Michael Crichton. Honestly I'm beginning to think I've been reading a textbook on climatology instead!

Oh yes, his books are very formulaic, I've read three, this one AnD and DaVinci
TBH since reading them, and since writing my review, I'm more coming round to, entertaining light read, rather than great book.
