I just got my renewal quote from my insurance company, was pleased with the price but still decided to check to see if I could get it any cheaper. I went onto one of the insurance search engines but didn't expect too much because it's a pita getting insurance over here as most companies don't cover and those that do charge almost twice as much as the local companies. I was surprised to actually find a cheaper quote and was going to talk it over with dh (there was more excess and no breakdown with this one). Anyway, about 15 minutes after I checked the quote my phone rings and it's the insurance company that gave me the cheaper quote. 15 minutes later, a fuss over my car registration (NI car registrations are different!) he gave me a quote that was nearly £150 more than the one I'd just got online :ac39: And tried to tell me it was a brilliant deal :angry-smi123 I told him my renewal quote was much cheaper and he still tried to get me to buy theirs - because it's a nationwide company (literally, the only benefit over my company who are based in NI). God - why do insurance companies try to screw you so much.:angry-smi123

I didn't bother checking at renewal this year, but the other year, when I did change, I used an insurance search engine that said you only have to give your details once etc ... anyway it came up with a couple of cheaper quotes than the renwal I had, so I clicked on one. It thought about it for a while and wouldn't direct to the right page, so I had to use the link to their website - and, surprise, that didn;t take the reference number I had, so had to key in again, - but it came up with an even cheaper quote, but a query on something which I had to phone about.

Called them, had to give all the details again, but cover was agreed and was about £100 cheaper than the original renewal notice I had received, so was worth it in the end!

God, I wish our insurance rates were that low - despite NI being one of the safest areas with regards to car theft we're still being screwed on insurance costs because of the troubles. I have 7 years no claims, my car isn't a new one, has no modifications and the cheapest I've been quoted is £335 (and that's down from £400 last year)

It also depends on what car you have as well though!

I don't think my insurance is too bad really - £600ish fully comp for my and DP on my Nova GSi, 3 years no claims... and I can drive any car on my policy which is great! ... would be couple of hundred cheaper but DP is under 25.

You can usually drive any car if you have your own insurance policy (or at least you used to be able to) but just beware, this cover is usually third party only.

£600 :smiley-fa sounds an awful lot, even for the car. Has insurance gone up over there recently? We only used to pay around £300 for a Volvo T5.

Over here though we get it a bit cheaper and most policies are any driver.
