Eldest DD has got herself into a right old mess. She has finally chucked her chap out after he didn't come home one evening so she phoned to see where he was and although he didn't answer her call but he pushed the wrong button and she heard him out with some girl who he was slagging her off to, personally I could kill him!

1. Contacts tax credits to change circumstances (new baby)
2. she tried to get a rent/council tax rebate, the council need proof of her income so she asks work for proof of her materity pay. Payslip doesn't state Maternity pay although shows her low income
3. Nothing arrives from work.
4. She contacts tax credits as her payment not gone in
5. Council write for proof of income giving her date she must have it in by
6. Contacts work again
7. Gets letter from Tax credits saying she isn't entitled to any and she been overpaid and owes them over £1000
8. Goes over managers head after waiting weeks and contacts head office for details of her maternity pay
9. Over £1, 500 paid into her bank from Tax credit people, she still hasn't heard from them!!!!
10. Boyfriend goes out for evening and still not home by early hours, she phones his mobile, he think he disconnects call but she hears him chatting to a girl he is obviously out with and really running her down, final straw and throws him out
11. Trades in her two door car for four door and pays the difference with Tax credit windfall
12. Gets call from cross manager telling her she shouldn't have gone to head office and that it appears a mistake was made even though she had sat down with her manager to go through it all to work it out, and she wasn't entitled to SMP after all and they would be sending her a letter to ask for it back!!!!
13. As she was getting maternity pay from work she didn't apply for Maternity allowance from goverment
14. Tells Council she is now single parent
15. Work don't pay her but still no letter from them
16. Has letter from council saying as they have not received proof of her tax credits or maternity pay, baring in mind they now know she is a lone parent with less than £84 a week coming in, that she is not entitled to a rent or council tax rebate20061008

We don't know where to turn next, her rent and council tax are due as are DD coming out of her bank.

oh I'm so sorry, sounds like the typical mess things get into if a claim doesn't work exactly as the .gov dept. thinks it should, life isn't as simple as the beuracrats like to think.

Dd is lucky to have you for support. I hope things improve for her soon. Sorry she has had to put up with all the mix ups about money. I'm afraid I don't know anyone who has been entitled to anything from any agency for whom things have been straightforward. I just hope I never need to claim anything else from anyone! Tax credits are bad enough.
Lots of good wishes for your dd. Sounds like she deserves a much nicer partner than this man xx

Can't advise but what rotten luck. Do you think the CAB might help to point her in the right direction.

Yes do try the cab they are really good at helping you to sort this sort of thing out, or at least they can contact the relevant organisations for her to explain her situation. I thought that everyone was entitled to maternity pay from their employer these days, she should check that out. Might be wrong as it's all changed since my maternity leave days though.

Big hugs all round.
