How sick are some people!

A hoaxer has emailed relatives and friends of people missing since the Asia tsunami disaster, saying their loved ones have been confirmed dead. The hoaxer, claiming to be from the Thai "Foreign Office Bureau", targeted people who placed appeals on the Sky News website.

The Metropolitan Police said it was treating the messages, which came from one e-mail address, very seriously.

It added that the government would not use e-mail to inform people of a death.

The bogus address used is ukgovfoffice@aol.com.

Anyone receiving such an e-mail should treat it with the utmost caution, said the police statement.

A man has been charged in connection with hoax e-mails which were sent to relatives of people missing following the Asian tsunami.
The 40-year-old man, who was arrested on New Year's Eve, was charged on Sunday with malicious communication and causing a public nuisance.

The man, from Lincolnshire, will appear at Horseferry Road Magistrates' Court on Monday, Met Police said.
