Hi not sure if anyone can help, but my stuffings for my fuzzis are looking really drab so are my whites.
I do not use detergent I use eco balls and usually use soda crystals or napisan as a boost.
Any ideas please
TIA

Have never used real nappies - but have read before that drying outside really helps as the sun naturally bleaches them...

Yes this is what I was going to say! The sun is the best for bleaching out stains. I don't have much of a problem with stains because I use biodegradable nappy liners and they tend to catch most of the messy stuff.
The sun is on it's way according to the weather!

Oxiclean from Asda or Tesco is really good for whiter whites.
EEA I knew you would suggest one of your new ecofriendly cleaning agents:cheesy:

The only way to keep whites 'white' imo is to only ever wash white with white. I could never understand why my white's were starting to look a bit grey but since I stick to the white with whites principle they are fine!
Hardly any of my nappies are white though.

But that is a good thing isn't it? don't get me started on salt, lemons and white vinegar.............:cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:
Agree sarah, always was whites with whites but sometimes what goes on to the white before it goes into the machine needs a bit of assistance with removal and Oxiclean is very good for this, has loads of uses around the house and is especailly good for spills on the carpet.

Are they white polo shirts? I gave up with white and changed to light blue. I just couldn't get the white ones clean. The school have never said anything either, think they realised what sense it made!

lol what a good idea, they may notice tho, just remembered that the other school nearby has light blue so they may not approve

Well I don't think there's much they can do to be honest, if it's anything like in our area, we have school uniforms but they are non-enforcable in primary school age children. Katherine's school is very strict and we have to stick to exact uniform but the primary schools don't mind mainly because they have no choice! I do think uniforms are a good think but most definately not white for primary age children!

I agree with wash whites with whites, darks with darks and pales with pales - i also use eco balls and my whites are staying white - although i confess to using soapnuts with either borax or soda crystals for added cleaning power in my whites wash every few washes - i use white vinegar in the conditioner drawer when i use soap nuts for softness.
You might want to soak the nappies in water with bicarb and some tea tree oil pre wash - lemon juice is an expensive way of bleaching whites too but works best if you have sunshine - hmmm definate lack of that but daylight alltogether should help at this time of year.
You can use eco balls up to 60 degrees so maybe a bit warmer wash if the nappies will allow might help - maybe using ecover powder every few washes for the nappies might help too - soda crystals spray cleaner removes stains as the chepest option - i love soda crystals!
lots of options really says the queen of cleaning naturally ;-)

I was all set to buy soap nuts and then someone put me off saying they weren't very good.
I rarely wash at 60 anymore, I probably do every 5th or 6th nappy wash hot and the rest at 40.

I've only just seen this, thanks for the offer but a few people have said that there about as effective as washing in plain water so I won't bother.
Thanks Sarah x

Have just got back to using my cottons - finally ds1 is potty trained so only 2 sets of nappies to wash! We bought our first lot of cottons when Cam (now 3) was born and they have lasted 3 babies now, with a few stains along the way. The best tip we got was to buy a really cheap and nasty towell, say in bright red or blue and put it in with the nappy wash. Usually the dye ran and dyed the nappies a slightly better colour! I know its not quite the most ecological way of doing it but its better than some stain removers. :happy72:

I just spent the past couple of hrs soaking some undies that I managed 2 recolour pink(!) in bleach& water. Also scrubbed with bleach, dds white polo shirts (uniform regulation) & ds' white/black nike top he wore away on hols with sil, as they had small stains that just wouldnt come out...& couldnt be soaked!!

Hi, i have given up on buying expensive stain removers like oxy and vanish. I now buy Stardrops it is only about 80p a bottle and if you put some neat on the stain let it soak then wash it , it works well. I must admit i have not tried it on nappies though but it got pizza sauce of my sons england shirt that i found under his bed.
Stardrops is also very good for general cleaning don't make it to strong though or it leaves the surface sticky. I use it on everything and the bottle lasts ages because you dilute it.
