In our house we tend to have a cut off time (9pm) when people generally call up to, after that we class it as an emergency.... is this only us as i have friends who still call and are called past midnight "just for a chat".

Is it just us??

Are u by any chance having a go at me. I only phoned last night as you had not been on mumszone as often as you usually are and I hadn't heard from you for some time so I felt a bit anxious, as a mum does, and had to check you were all o.k. I knew you were still on the go as you had responded to a thread just prior to me ringing. Smacked wrists and I won't do it again. Sorry to care.

10pm is my cut off, I ignore the main phone because if it was an family emergency they'd then try me on my mobile which i would then answer

no one phones us after 8 pm! I don't think people should phone later than that unless its really important.

I tell people 9 , 10 the latest. In my eyes if it's that late then it can wait till the morning, as there is not alot you can do about most things at that time!

Don't really have a cut off time as I have a sister in the US and she is 8 hours behind us.

We don't really answer our phone! Kids get ready for bed from 6pm onwards but we have tea from 4:30/5pmish where we don't answer the phone. Once the kids are in bed we turn the answer machine on again so we can have time to ourselves. Dh's parents get really p****d off with this, but if they leave a message we'll call them back when we get time. Guess it's our way of having some control in an otherwise hectic life!

Noone seems to ring after bout 9pm but it isnt gospel tho saying that if someone phones later then we dont answer n wait till they ring off n do 1471 too see who it was.

We haven't got a cut off time, I would answer the phone what ever time it rang, with young grandchildren and a elderly mother they know they can ring at any time, I would be worried it was an emergency if it was really late. If we are eating we leave it and do 1471 and phone them back. As long as its not someone selling something I don't mind really.

We dont have a cut of point, the phone does show who is ringing so it is then our choice whether to answer or let the machine get it.

We often get calls at 11pm but this is because we are all busy sorting kids out, evening meals, things for work/school the next day that this time means everything is done and you can sit and have a good chat.

we used to not answer the phone after 9pm and just 1471 and ring back if it was anyone important but now we wait till ds comes home usually 10.30:ac39: then dont answer the phone after that, but I hate leaving it ringing incase its important, so i always do a 1471 which always annoys dh

no cut off time, but people don't call us after a certain time cos they know we have children and are always tired, also most of the people I know are in bed by 10pm

Don't really have a cut off time, but only rarely do we get calls after 10

I have a big thing about not liking ringing people after 10pm anyway, and don;t ring early mornings either.

When I worked in a pub, a relative rang me 8am one morning and was disgusted I was still in bed, she said, if I'm up I don't see why you shouldn't be. So I asked if it'd be alright if I rang her back after I finished work, at about 1am. She got the point!
