My daughter has received a letter this morning telling her she isn't entitled to any tax credit and she has been over paid £1,274 in child tax credits and £742.00 working tax credits!!!
She had applied for more Child tax credits since having the baby six weeks ago. She is on maternity pay at the moment and her partner brings brings home about £800 a month. I thought you got child tax credits even if you earnt about 40k.

There is no way they have the money to pay any of this back. Has anyone been in the same position?

The thing is she has been on the phone to them three times already this week re her new claim and no one mentioned anything about overpayments, they don't seem to have any idea what they are doing20061008

If she has to pay some back, they'll take it in instalments, usually by direct debit. (personal experience)

what do you expect they could not arrange a bun fight in a bakery (the first one I thought of was a bit rude but it involves a brewery)

they told me id been overpaid not as much as £1000 and took it off in instalments each week didnt bother to tell me just took it off me then didnt bother to tell me id paid it back

id get her too keep phoning up the more she hassles the quicker they might get it sorted

I've had so many c***k ups with them - they were still taking into account my previous salary even though I'd told them (by phone and in writing) that I would not be earning that for the rest of the financial year. To be fair, they did sort it out and things seem to have been ok since

Yep they sent me a letter saying this last year! Apparently i hadn't sent in my renewal - (which i had) and as it goes on what you earnt the previious year this is why they asked for the money back - as the year before i was earning (and quite good money) but they were paying me tc as i was on Maternity leave.

I contested it, then when dp lost his job and i wasn't workign they started a new claim and now i get even more that i am working full time - i've kept all the letters i have sent them by recorded delivery and the odd one i've recieved back.

Saying it is a seperate claim and not to worry about either of them...BONKERS - don;t think i'll touch the money!

This system is pants.

Not very helpful i know.......

consent it, remind them whose fault the over payment is, and that u're daughter did everything she was supposed to do. the system is a farce + i think they just try there luck as a lot of people dont argue with them and so pay back money. if she really has to phone them she wants ro speak to a manager/supervisor, but i'd suggest write, recorded only and keep a copy of all letters she sends them.
Also a few months ago, the Sun newspaper ran a feature and it also said that because of their error, tax wouldn't get money back

we have a higher income, and we still get £10 a week ctc, well we should but because of another 'overpayment' we get naff all of it, but are still entitled.

I've had nothing but cr@p off them, for the last 3 yrs. The other day i added up al the 'overpayments' and it came to a hell of a lot more than i've ever had off them!!!

Managers/team leaders are just as bad, one said he'd sort it out, after 2 months of no money, 6 weeks later all he'd done was cancel my claim! Soon found out he was hoping i wouldnt ring back and hassle him! Had a complaint put in against him.

The only reason i bother claiming is because i'm on that much medication, i need the free prescriptions.
