We haven't got one and dh won't have one. Andrea you won't be able to only put it on once a day unless you've got LOADS of crockery etc. They use a lot of energy too, stick to washing up :D

We bought one about two years ago - dp convinced me to get one as I wasn't keen. Now I adore it

I just run it once a day. Apparently it's efficient and uses less water than conventional washing up. And it's great as all the dishes can be immediately 'hidden' in it so the kitchen never looks messy. I would hate to be without it now!

Only three. It's usually full enough to run though, or if not there's an option to run a half-load. I'd definately recommend one x

I've had one for 5 years, I also bought the cover for 5 years and it packed up just before it was up (about a 7 days!) and they gave me a brand new washer cause mine was trashed (oops) I was very pleased though.

I used mine once a day, sometimes twice on a sunday. I couldn't live without it. When it packed up I was like 'ME washing dishes! huh' (only kidding mind you)

There are 5 of us in the house.

Lol..or a lazy one. We dont argue over who has to wash up we argue over who has to empty/fill the dishwasher now!

This is soooo true!

My dh point blank refuses to get one and we don't have the room anyway! You can get worktop dishwashers tho!

Ravenfire
05-07-2006, 06:36 PM
My sister used to have a worktop one but you can't fit half as much in. She's just waiting to sort her new house out so she can get a full size one.

A waste of space and money. I would rather give the kids pocket money to do the washing-up!! I get it done, they earn cash + a trade for adult life.

Ravenfire
05-07-2006, 06:43 PM
Ahh yes but you see the children can still help, they just empty and fill the dishwasher!

Not the same as flooding the kitchen with dish water - and whose gonna get them a dish washer when they leave home, 'cos they wont know how to wash up?

Sarah

Actually my children are 14 and almost 12 and I rarely make them wash up - maybe that's where I'm going wrong!

Ravenfire
05-07-2006, 06:54 PM
Clever monkey!

Dont all industrial kitchens have to have dishwashers now anyway? Sure I read something the other day that said teatowels weren't allowed any more as its unhygenic in the workplace.

Talking of teatowels, how many does everyone go through and how often do you change them? Even with a dishwasher there are some things I handwash - such as delicate glass and my saucepans and I go through them like noones business.

That was one of my most hated jobs as a child. We had to wash, wipe or put away every day and I hated it. I was always quite happy to help with anything else though (well apart from tidying my bedroom which was also a chore at that age!).

We have a dishwasher, have had one for about 12 years. Absolutely love it we use it once a day sometmes twice if I have been doing lots of baking or we have had visitors.

Love the fact that I can put pots straight into and go sit and have my meal and know the kitchen looks clean and tidy and only have to pop the plates in when the meal is finished.

My girls think it is great when they are at my mum and dads as they help wash and dry the pots, its fun for them rather than a chore.

Yes we have had one for years and I love it. There are four in our household and I put it on once a day.

It washes in water far hotter than you could put your hands in and I am sure I have heard that it sterilises everything, so good for little one's things. We used to have a slimline one which was great but I would only recommend that for say about two people.

don't you scrap your plates before washign them in the bowl?? i just scrape the food of then straight in the washer....

when you clean it you can put it on a clean cycle (well mine does..) it uses boiling water when it cleans the dishes so clean as it goes along for most of the time... I'v been using mine for over a 2 years and never had a build up of gunge...

[QUOTE=wenders]don't you scrap your plates before washign them in the bowl?? i just scrape the food of then straight in the washer....

yes, but thats why I don't see the point of having one its not as though its any faster, I've washed up in the time it takes to load it all in! it takes up room and costs money, I can see the point if you have a large family maybe but for the normal amount of washing up it seems a bit pointless. Now if you find me an iron that will do the ironing on its own I'd have one of those.

Ravenfire
05-07-2006, 09:41 PM
Believe me having a dishwasher is much faster. It washes and dries for you and is much easier. It actually doesnt take that long to load it up either. I have had a dishwasher for about 12 years now and it takes minutes to load and unload!

Years ago my ds couldn't stand doing the washing up or drying and kept on until we relented. We thought at the time it would only last a couple of years before it broke down and we would get rid of it. Well, he's 40 now and I wouldn't be without one for all the pre-mentioned reasons. When coughs, colds and sore throats are in the house I tell everyone to make sure all the cups, cutlery and plates go into the dishwasher and I'm convinced that it the reason why the whole house do not go down with coughs, colds and sore throats. As for tea towels I must get through about 3 or more a day depending on how much hand washing up has been done.

We have a dishwasher, its one of the energy efficient one that only uses the water it needs - it can tell how dirty the water is and adjusts the length of the cycle accordingly. We have a water meter too and the charges arent too bad. My tiddlers are just getting the hang of scraping scraps and stacking their plates away and like to help unload it into the bits they can reach!

It is personal choice though!!

No I've got one too lol. Would probably have a fainting fit if someone took it away.

We run ours once a day, occasionally twice if we've had friends or family around for dinner or if I put all the cooker bits in or do lots of baking etc. I use all my other bits and pieces in the kitchen much more now like the attatchments for the food processor, (grater, slicer, juicer etc) purely because I know I'm not going to have to wash the flipping thing up. It's brilliant. I love it.

and i agree, it doesn't really matter if it took half hour longer to load..(well exaggeration maybe)...its the standing at the sink, greasy slimy plates and cooked on black pans, red spag bol sauce everywhere (my bug bear) and the mixer attachments.etc....and everything else!!
