Have any of you web designers customised an Actinic e-commerce site before? One of my clients uses this for her online shop but she wants the design redone. As far as I know, Actinic is a shopping cart software which makes me think this will be totally different from OScommerce. Anyone know how difficult/easy this is to do? Thanks!

Hi Meg

In order to customise Actinic you need to have a developer copy of the software - or use the customers own (they need to have a version that will allow customisation rather than just colour changes, and you would have to work on their pc as its single licence I believe).

The developer version costs circa £1K. There was talk of them bringing in a scaled down version for developers so we can customise without being able to actually use the software as a cart but I don't know if this was ever implemented, its been a few years since I last worked with Actinic.

The way it worked before the customer had a copy of the software and the developer had developer software to enable them to work on design.

HTH a bit?
:) Sadie

ps - its very, very different to oscommerce. Oscommerce you can edit the core code, hack it about, move stuff as you wish, Actinic allows far less of this as its a commercial license so you do not have access to the core code. That said - most of the functionality is inbuilt into it so its often not necessary to hack into the core code like you have to with oscommerce. Design and functionality are much more separated.

Hmmm. Ok thanks Sadie. So bascially I need to find out from them what type of Actinic software they have - the kind that allows customisation or not. Then I need to do all the design work (graphics etc.) here and then work on their PC to integrate with the online shop. Sounds like a real nightmare. Also, they want some Flash bits on the homepage. It looks like the homepage can just be the index and then the catalogue is separate so I'm hoping that will be OK. Anyway, thanks for the info. Very helpful:happy72:
