View Full Version : Litters
should I let my dog have a litter before we get her done ?, is it better for her healthwize ? shes a lab-rotty cross and I thought I heard somewhere that they can get rotten wombs later on if they don't have a litter

it does calm them down a lot when they have a litter i cant see ti doing her any harm how old is she ?
she still only a baby at the moment nearly 4 mths, but its the sort of thing i need to think about now as if shes going to be done then that will need to be sorted out soonish but if not then i think (its been a while since i last had a dog) there is something they can be given to stop them becoming pregnant for the time being

not too sure hun if there is anything you can give her best to talk to the vet about that one though i do think she is too young to have a litter just yet but i would let her in the future theres nothing better than cute ickle puppies :D

It is an old wives tale that dogs or cats should have a litter before they are done, if you are sure you can rehome all the puppies and want the hassle and possible expense of puppies then go for it, but it is not a nesscity.

Hi,
Sorry in being a bit late here. Because of the rotty part in her its recommended they are not spayed/neutered or bred from until they are at least 2 years old.Because of their sizing they are not fully mature until then.
Personally (please dont jump on my back its just my opinion) i dont believe in breeding unless its for the good of the breed & all health tests have come back good.
Ive got 3 ped rottys here, only 1 is old enough to be bred from but i wont be. Temperment & health wise she is perfect but i cant guarantee excellent homes for the pups. I dont believe either that they must have a litter,in fact ive known some of the most placid dogs go the complete opposite after mating.

Thanks Sarah
I wanted everyones views so I'm not going to jump on anyones back, I have never had my own puppy had dogs when i was a kid so I know the basics I grew up with a lab but we got westies later on and they where both boys I had heard some things about rotton wombs ect and thats why i asked on here
Now if someone can give me some advice on her constant chewing of everything but her chew toys ........
