Thank you all, happy to be here
I live in greece. My birthtown is Larisa, but i have been living in Xanthi for the last two years. Will be moving to Larisa next month, permanently.
I'm a math teacher, and my wife is a Chemist (teacher).
And i have a couple of questions;
What's a SAHM or a WHAM;
is there a link like "new answers to my posts" or "unread since last visit" kind of stuff somewhere;
(Sorry about my english, still learning)
(if want to ask something about greece, please do!)

sahm = stay at home mum
wahm = work at home mum....
there are loads of abreviations.. go to the menu and find the introductions section, they should be in there i think.....
Nice to meet you
i am a sahm to my 3 adorable angels(well some of the time, the rest they are horrors) and live in surrey with my dp!! (he is a member here too, "darwins_reject"
Hope you find it as friendly and lovely as we all do!!

We call them dolmathakia (th as in the)
You need:
1/2 kgr wine leaves
1/2 kgr rice (karolina type)
10 fresh onions (the ones with the long green tails)
1 and 1/2 cup of olive oil
2 onions (the big ones that make you cry when you peel them)
2 lemons
salt
pepper
and 2 more spices called ανηθος anithos and δυοσμος (i think this is called peppermint or something like that)
How do you make them:
You boil the wine leaves, a few at a time for about 3 minutes and then you let the water from them go away
In a big pan you put 1 cup of olive oil, the 2 onions in little pieces and then the rest of the stuff. (not the wine leaves)
You add water and let the rice get cooked for about 10 minutes.
When its done you let it cool off and then you put a tablespoon of the ricestuff into a wine leaf and make it like a little paket. All the rice inside and the wine leaf around to protect it.
Now the strange part.
You take a big pot (i mean like the pan but the one you make soups into) and you put in it some wooden sticks (you know, the souvlaki type). On top of them some wine leaves and above them the little packets you made before.
Add 2 cups of almost hot water and above them you put a heavy big plate so that the packets stay down and do stay as packets and not turn into paste or "puree".
Keep it on low fire for about 50 minutes and: VOILA!
But be carefull. its supposed to be one of the hardest recipies in greece. And in every different part of greece people add a spice or two or make it a little different.
Dont be affraid. Try it and tell us your success story!

:fryingpan: errrrrrrmmmm.....lol....i don't think i will even attempt them...will wait for my next holiday i think lol...
ast time we were in Greece. where we went everyday for drinks etc...we got friendly with the owners and his mum gave me a bag of 'special herbs' for vine leaves....they stayed in my cupboard for about a year, then i threw them out!...i did see some tinned vine leaves in a market in North End Road when i lived in London. but they didn't look too nice...
thanks Ytrewg for the recipe though....feel free to make them yourself and post them to me ready made...:happy72:

Hi ytrewq - have an answer to your "new posts" question.
At the top of the page, under the "Mumszone banner" there are 2 lines of options - "new posts" is on the second line, near the right hand side (close to the log out option).
This should show you a list of posts made since your last visit. Unread items will appear darker than ones you have read.
Hope this makes sense!
