Julia Roberts is said to be "thrilled" after giving birth to twins.
Her publicist revealed that she and cameraman husband Danny Moder had named the boy and girl Phinnaeus and Hazel.
Julia, 37, was desperate for children and had used IVF treatment to conceive reports The Sun.
But she was confined to bed last month after experiencing a series of early contractions. She was not due to give birth until early January.
Her spokeswoman in Los Angeles said: "Mother and babies are doing great." But she did not release the twins' weights or other details.
Julia, who won the best actress Oscar in 2001 for her role in Erin Brockovich, has previously told how twins run in her family.
The star has vowed to take five years off work to raise her children.
