Calm Worries and Reduce Anxiety with EFT For Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond

Not only are pregnancy and birth some of the most emotional events in a woman’s life, but then you are faced with the most difficult job in the world – being a parent!  Wouldn’t it be great if you had some way of supporting yourself emotionally through all the worrying, scary and stressful times?  A natural way to manage stress without turning to pills, or taking out your anger on your children or partner..

More and more Mums are using a technique called EFT to help them overcome issues surrounding pregnancy, birth and parenting and gaining back their right to be free from all negative emotions.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a complementary therapy working on the same principles as acupuncture, using the energy system in the body called the meridians.  The Chinese have been using these energies for thousands of years for good health and well being.  Acupuncture uses needles whereas EFT uses a light tapping technique to correct imbalances.  The theory behind EFT is that all negative emotions are caused by an imbalance in the body’s energy system which is similar to an electrical short circuit.  If this imbalance is corrected, by tapping on certain points on the face, upper body and hands, the negative emotion will dissipate.  EFT usually works very quickly, sessions can be conducted over the phone so you don’t have to leave home, and you will then also be able to use the technique yourself whenever you want!

I used EFT myself to help overcome my own life-long anxieties about pregnancy and birth, and now I have helped many women with their own very varied issues.  Some of the areas it can help with include:

Pre-conception
·         Worries about own/partner's fertility issues
·         Impatience and frustration when waiting for the "blue line"
·         Fear and anxiety about fertility tests and procedures
·         Worry and stress when receiving fertility treatment

Pregnancy
·         Worries about your unborn baby
·         Anxiety about becoming a parent
·         Fear of morning sickness
·         Phobias of medical tests and procedures, e.g. blood tests, internal examinations
·         Emotional issues when adjusting to pregnancy

Birth
·         Fear of pain
·         Phobia of labour and birth – tocophobia
·         Anxiety about being out of control
·         Fear of hospital and medical procedures
·         and can also be used during labour to reduce pain and keep calm

Parenting
·         Frustration with sleepless nights, teething, weaning, etc
·         Over anxious about child’s health, including fear/phobia of cot death
·         Worry and guilt about own parenting skills
·         Controlling symptoms of PND

And of course there are many more situations where EFT could be used to keep negative emotions at bay, and ensure you are calm and relaxed.

Here is what some Mums have said about using EFT:
“I had trouble dealing with issues surrounding my infertility problems. After one session of EFT I felt all the anger, frustration and jealousy lift.” - SM, now pregnant with her first baby.

“The labour was amazing. Two hours after contractions had started, I was left alone for over an hour.  I got through this time repeatedly going through the EFT routine. I was amazed that I didn't panic about the possibility of giving birth alone!” – Mandy

“I had an EFT session over the phone, which really helped me to deal with a lot of anxieties about the birth. Sarah talked me through the technique, and it was amazing to feel the anxiety actually lifting. I was able to use it in the run-up to the birth any time I felt nervous or worried, which was a real help.” – Anna

“EFT helped me find the work/life balance I needed and helped get rid of the guilt I felt for not spending ALL my time with my children.” – Lynne

“When I could feel those old feelings of helplessness I used to get with PND just starting to flare up again I tried EFT and it definitely made me feel better, calmer and more in control, like taking a step back and realising there were no life or death situations going on” – Anna

“EFT has helped me to keep calm during stressful periods of time in motherhood.  I now feel more in control of my emotions and this has a beneficial effect upon my son and our family life.” - Vicki Hill of www.rewardboard.co.uk who recommends parents to use EFT to help cope with challenging behaviour.

An added bonus of EFT is that it can also be used with your children to help with their fears, toddler tantrums or any emotional turmoil they go through in their early years.  Once you have learnt the technique for yourself you will be fully able to use it with your children to encourage a happy family life!
