Reaping the Rewards of Child Behaviour

Back in 2003, Vicki Hill was a mother considering ways in which she could potty train her son.  By 2005, she is now a successful entrepreneur running an online business dedicated to reusable reward charts.  She has become another success story to follow the trend of women whose experience as a parent has inspired them to establish a successful business online.

Through both academic and work place experience Vicki was aware that rewarding a child in the face of good behaviour encourages further co-operation.  During her studies for a Post Graduate Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education and Diploma in Counselling, she was taught that children respond well to reward and it motivates them to continue their level of achievement.

Vicki first put this theory to test in the classroom.  As an experienced teacher working with children suffering challenging behaviour, she used the concept of reward to motivate her students.  The result was productive and she made good progress seeing a definite improvement of behaviour when reward was offered in return for positive actions. Therefore, when she became a mother, and came up against the struggle of potty training, Vicki decided to take a look at the reward charts on the market.

She was surprised by the vastness of the charts.  ‘Many charts have 40 or more stickers on it, this makes it seem like hard work for little ones to achieve.’  With this in mind she created her own reward chart that contained six stickers, which was less daunting and more achievable for her young son.  It worked well and she became inspired to help other parents tackle the difficult issues involved in parenthood.  She began to promote her reward charts through her online educational store, but demand became so great that business soon expanded.  She now runs a website based solely on the promotion of reward charts.

The charts have proved popular with parents and teachers across the UK.  Reward charts have been endorsed in programmes such as ‘Supernanny’ and ‘Little Angels’.  As well as being achievable, Vicki’s charts are tailored to suit a variety of issues such as potty training or bedtime routine.  The charts are available in various styles and colours, and used with stickers, reward coins and bookmarks, all of which are appealing to children.  For more information and guidance on the use and effectiveness of reward charts visit http://www.rewardboard.co.uk or contact 0114 2571609.
