Being a mum is hard work. Juggling the school run, laundry, shopping and staying sane is a pretty difficult task. Sometimes you need to have a little time out to re-cooperate. Relaxation does not have to be expensive or take you out of the home, here are a few tips that might help you to recharge your batteries.

Make sure that you highlight some time in your week that is just for you. Think of it as making an appointment with yourself. This time must not be cancelled or infringed upon. Have a think about the kinds of things that you find relaxing. Some people enjoy listening to music or reading. If you can afford it treat yourself to a new CD or a new book and look forward to spending that time indulging in relaxation.

Sometimes it is nice to create a different atmosphere in your home. Choose a room where you will be undisturbed, make it clear to family members that this is your time! You may like to experiment with aromatherapy oils, lavender is a relaxing oil to choose. Candles can also help to create a calm atmosphere and you could dim the lights. Take the opportunity to apply a facemask or simply lie down and drift away.

Sometimes it is difficult to relax particularly if you are out of the habit. Relaxation time can turn into planning the next meal, or thinking about what needs doing around the house. If you are finding it difficult to switch off you may wish to invest in a meditation CD. These keep your mind focused and mean there is less opportunity for those intrusive thoughts! There is a wide range of meditation CDs available on www.amazon.co.uk These CDs usually last for around half an hour and users report feeling invigorated after a session.

If you do have some spare cash and a babysitter, make an appointment at your local beauty clinic. There are all kinds of wonderful relaxing treatments on offer such as facials, Indian head massage, Reiki and Reflexology. If funds are limited, try giving your local college a call. They usually have appointments where you are treated by students, at a fraction of the cost.

Whatever you choose to do, remember that you are special and deserve some special time on a regular basis. Happy relaxation!
