Usborne Books at Home is the direct sales division of Usborne Publishing, an organisation which gives you the opportunity to sell Usborne books and help raise literacy levels.

Usborne Books publish some of the most popular children’s books. These range from the cloth, touchy-feely and first words books for babies and toddlers, and fiction and non-fiction titles for children of all ages. Usborne books have bright, colourful illustrations, age appropriate text, puzzles, flaps and stickers to make them appealing to children – Usborne books helps make learning great fun.

Usborne Books at Home has Organisers across the UK and throughout the EU, selling Usborne books, games and jigsaws. Parents have the chance to look at the books at their leisure and ask advice from the knowledgeable Organisers.

I joined Usborne Books at Home as an Organiser after the birth of my son as a way of earning some extra money. I’m not really a ‘sales person’ but I thought that paying just under £40 for my starter kit of over £100 of books and stationery, seemed a good deal. I am obsessed with buying books for my son and thought that it seemed a good way of getting some cheap books!

I held my first event at home: I invited some friends round, showed them the books and the catalogue and surprisingly sold lots of books. I then did an event for a local church to help them with a fundraising target and sold some more! From there I made more contacts and from these made even more sales and contacts. Once you get started it gets easier and easier.

Working as an independent organiser for Usborne Books at Home is great. There are no sales targets to meet which means you can work when and how you want to. You can do home parties but also sell at Toddler groups, Day Nurseries, Preschools, Summer fetes and Christmas fairs, and School Book Fairs. I keep a collection of stock for displaying at events and also use the promotional leaflets and catalogues produced by Usborne Books at Home to help people make their selections. As an Organiser I get at least 24% commission on sales (20% on school sales) and promotion to Team Leader, Group or Divisional Executive brings in commission on recruits sales too.

Usborne Books at Home don’t set any sales targets, but they do offer lots of incentives for those who are successful; these include bonus books, days out and holidays. They also offer other events to all organisers including the awards ceremonies, training sessions conferences.
